(no subject)

This is possibly the political issue I care most about. Copyright law was originally designed to protect the small artist, and there were protections in there for the consumer as well. Things have shifted over the decades, and now copyright law is almost all designed to protect big campaign-donating corporations. Our rights of fair use have been eroded, and this would be one of the final nails in the coffin.

Plainly, the proposed legislation would probably leave VCRs as legal, but would make illegal any VCR-like technology that comes out now in the computer age. It probably would've made VCRs illegal, too, if it were passed back when VCRs were new. Also, "Providing privacy and anonymity will become elements of a crime under subsection (g)(2)(B)."

This link is for a call-in campaign tomorrow to encourage congresspeople to vote against this proposed legislation. If you have any free time tomorrow, then whether you care about this issue or not, please do me a favor and call in. Thanks.
